Graduate Degree Exam Regulations

  1. 本規章依據大學法及其施行細則、學位授予法及其施行細則訂定之。
  2. 本校碩士班之修業年限以一至四年為限,博士班之修業期限以二至七年為限,各系所並得依其特性需要,提高該系所之最低修業年限,並應明列於其修業規章中。
  3. 本校碩、博士班研究生之應修學分數、應修課程及獲得學位所須通過之各項考核規定,由各系所按大學法及其施行細則、學位授予法及其施行細則、及本規章之規定自訂章則並送教務處。碩士班之考核規定至少須包含碩士學位論文考試,博士班之考核規定至少須包含博士學位候選人資格考核及博士學位考試。博士學位候選人資格考核之考試科目、科數、考試方式以及不及格重考規定等事項,由各系所訂定。
  4. 本校各研究所碩(博)士班研究生修業期滿,完成碩(博)士學位應修課程;獲得應修學分數並通過獲得該所碩(博)士學位所須通過之其他考核規定,提出論文,得申請碩(博)士學位考試,經碩(博)士學位考試委員會考試通過者,由本校授予碩(博)士學位。若修畢碩(博)士學位應修課程及學分數,尚有其它與碩(博)士學位無直接相關的輔修課程,或當學期結束才可完成碩(博)士學位應修課程及應修學分數者,若提出論文,經指導教授推薦,得提早舉行碩(博)士學位考試,俟課程完成並獲得應修學分數後授予碩(博)士學位。
  5. 本校各碩士班研究生之碩士學位考試委員會置委員三人,由系所就校內外學者專家中對研究生所提論文有專門研究,並具備下列資格之一者,向校長推薦,由校長遴聘組成之。
    1. 曾任教授或副教授者。
    2. 擔任中央研究院院士或曾任中央研究院研究員、副研究員者。
    3. 獲有博士學位,在學術上著有成就者。
    4. 屬於稀少性或特殊性學科,在學術上或專業上著有成就者。前項第三款、第四款之提聘資格認定標準,由各系(所)務會議訂定之。
  6. 本校各博士班研究生,具有下列條件者,得為博士學位候選人。
    1. 修業期滿。
    2. 完成博士學位應修課程。
    3. 通過博士學位候選人資格考核及獲得該所博士學位所須通過之其他考核規定。博士學位候選人提出論文,得申請博士學位考試,經博士學位考試委員會考試通過者,由本校授予博士學位。
  7. 本校各博士班研究生之博士學位考試委員會置委員五至七人,由系所就校內外學者專家中對研究生所提論文有專門研究,並具備下列資格之一者,向校長推薦,由校長遴聘組成之,校外委員須佔三分之一(含)以上。
    1. 曾任教授者。
    2. 擔任中央研究院院士或曾任中央研究院研究員者。
    3. 曾任副教授或擔任中央研究院副研究員,在學術上著有成就者。
    4. 獲有博士學位,在學術上著有成就者。
    5. 屬於稀少性或特殊性學科,在學術上或專業上著有成就者。前項第三款至第五款之提聘資格認定標準,由各系(所)務會議訂定之。
  8. 本校碩士及博士學位候選人之學位考試,以口試行之,必要時亦得舉行筆試,並應依下列規定辦理:
    1. 學位候選人之配偶或三親等內之血親、姻親,不得擔任其指導教授及學位考試委員,刻意隱瞞經調查屬實者,應立即更換,如通過學位考試者,其該次成績無效,如已授予學位始發現時,則依第十四條之規定辦理。
    2. 口試以公開舉行為原則,須於事前公佈口試時間、地點及論文題目。
    3. 學位考試委員應親自出席委員會,不得委託他人為代表,碩士學位考試委員會至少應有委員三人出席,博士學位考試委員會至少應有委員五人出席,始得舉行。
    4. 指導教授不得兼任召集人。
    5. 學位考試成績,以七十分為及格,一百分為滿分,評定以一次為限,並以出席委員評定分數平均決定之,但碩士學位考試有二分之一以上出席委員,博士學位考試有三分之一以上出席委員評定不及格者,以不及格論,不予平均。
    6. 論文有抄襲、舞弊或侵犯智慧財產權情事,經學位考試委員審核確定者,以不及格論。
  9. 逕修讀博士學位學生修業期滿,通過博士學位候選人資格考核後,未通過博士學位考試,其博士學位論文經博士學位考試委員會認定合於碩士學位標準者,得授予碩士學位。
  10. 本校各系所各級學位之名稱,由本校訂定,報請教育部備查後實施,修訂時亦同。
  11. 本校碩、博士班研究生學業成績有下列情形之一者,即令退學:
    1. 在規定修業期限內未能完成應修課程者。
    2. 學位考試不及格,不合重考規定或合於重考規定,經重考一次仍不及格者,應令退學。
  12. 學生於學位考試成績及學位考試審定書送交教務處時,視為畢業;修習教育學程者,不在此限。畢業學生應依規定辦理離校手續。未依規定繳交畢業論文者,不得領取學位證書,亦不得作為延緩畢業或役男暫緩征集之理由。
  13. 博士、碩士學位論文(含提要)以中文撰寫為原則。碩士學位以技術報告替代之論文其封面改以「技術報告」或「創作報告」等稱之。學位考試通過後應在規定期限內將最後定稿版本之論文精裝紙本一冊及全文電子檔繳送圖書館庋藏,另碩士論文紙本一冊、博士論文紙本二冊繳送教務處彙轉教育部指定之庋藏單位。
  14. 本校對於已授予之碩士及博士學位,如發現論文、創作、展演或書面報告、技術報告有抄襲、舞弊或侵犯智慧財產權情事,經調查屬實者,則撤銷其學位,並追繳其已發之學位證書。
  15. 本校名譽博士學位之授予辦法,由本校舉薦委員會依據學位授予法及其施行細則另訂之,並列明於本校舉薦委員會組織章程中。
  16. 本規章未盡事宜,悉依相關法令規章辦理。
  17. 本規章由本校教務會議訂定,經校長核定,報請教育部備查後實施,修訂時亦同。
Graduate Degree Exam Regulations Top
  1. These regulations are set up according to University Act and the detailed rules and regulations of its execution, Degree Conferral Law and its execution bylaws.
  2. The limited amount of years of the academic studies of the master's class is one to four years. The limited amount of years of doctor’s class is two to seven years. Each department is to raise its lowest limit of years depending on their characteristic requirements, and they are required to clearly put these regulations in their regulations of academic studies.
  3. The required credits, required courses and the test regulations of graduate students and PhDs of CYCU are set according to University Act and the detailed rules and regulations of its execution, Degree Conferral Law and its execution bylaws, and then sent to the Dean's Office. The test regulations of the master's class include master's degree thesis examination, and the test regulations of the doctor's class include doctor's degree candidate qualification test and doctor's degree examination, at the very least. Matters such as the subjects to be tested, number of subjects, how they are tested and the regulations of students who failed to pass the test and are required to re-take it of the doctor's degree candidate qualification test are established by each department.
  4. When postgraduates and PhDs have completed their academic studies and required courses, and passed all the other verifications required to attaining master's or doctor's degree and handed in their theses, they are then qualified to apply for master's or doctor's degree examinations. Those who passes the exam through the master's/doctor's degree examination committee, this school then awards them a master's/doctor's degree. However, those who have completed the required courses and credits, but still have other minor subjects or courses and credit that can only be completed at the end of the semester, if they hand in their theses and are recommended by their advising professor, they are required to advance the scheduled time of the master's/doctor's degree examinations. After they complete their required courses and credits, they are then awarded master's/doctor's degree.
  5. Three committee members of the examination committee should be professionals and are required to possess one of the following qualifications, and then the qualified are recommended to the principal, who selects and employs them.
    1. have served as a professor or associate professor.
    2. be a member of Academia Sinica, or have served as a research fellow or associate research fellow at Academia Sinica.
    3. hold a doctoral degree and have achieved significant academic accomplishments.
    4. have expertise in an unusual or special academic subject and have achieved significant academic or professional accomplishments. Criteria for recognition of the qualifications listed in subparagraphs 3 and 4 of the preceding paragraph shall be determined separately by each department (graduate school) council.
  6. Every PhD student of this school is required to possess the following terms in order to become a doctor’s degree candidate.
    1. Completed all the academic studies
    2. Completed all the required courses of doctor's degree.
    3. Passed all the qualification verifications of doctor's degree candidate and all the other verification and examination regulations that are required for acquiring doctor's degree. After the doctor's degree candidate hands in their theses, they are then qualified to apply for doctor's degree examinations. Those that have passed the examinations through the examination committee, they are then awarded a doctor's degree.
  7. Five to seven committee members of the examination committee should be professionals and are required to possess one of the following qualifications, and then the qualified are recommended to the principal, who selects and employs them. One third or more of the committee members should be members from outside the school.
    1. have served as a professor or associate professor.
    2. be a member of Academia Sinica, or have served as a research fellow or associate research fellow at Academia Sinica.
    3. hold a doctoral degree and have achieved significant academic accomplishments.
    4. have expertise in an unusual or special academic subject and have achieved significant academic or professional accomplishments.
    5. Criteria for recognition of the qualifications listed in subparagraphs 3 and 4 of the preceding paragraph shall be determined separately by each department (graduate school) council.
  8. The academic degree examinations of the master’s and doctor’s degree candidates are oral tests. If necessary, written tests are held and are handled according to the following regulations:
    1. Spouses or relatives of academic degree candidates are not allowed to serve as their advising professor and academic examination committee member. If those who deliberately cover up this information are eventually discovered through investigation, they are then immediately replaced. Those who pass the academic degree examinations are then disqualified. Those who have already been awarded academic degree, they are handled according to the 14th regulation.
    2. Oral tests are taken in the open, and the time, location and thesis topic of the oral test should be announced in advance.
    3. Academic examination committee member should personally attend the committee; they are not allowed to entrust other people to attend as a replacement. At least three committee members should attend the master's degree examination committee, and at least five members should attend the doctor's degree examination committee.
    4. Advising professors are not allowed to serve as a part-time convener.
    5. Student has to get 70 marks to pass the examination. Full marks is 100. Grades are only appraised once, and are decided with the average grade appraised by the committee members. However, students whose master’s degree grades are appraised as a fail by over half of the committee members, and students whose doctor’s degree grades are appraised as a fail by over one third of members, then his or her grade is thus graded as a fail.
    6. If there is any plagiarism, cheating or violation of intellectual property rights, he or she is thus given a fail.
  9. Students who have completed their studies, passed the qualification verification of doctor's degree candidate, failed to pass the doctor's degree examinations, and whose doctor's degree thesis are up to the standards of master's degree, then he or she is awarded a master's degree.
  10. The names of every academic degree of each department are set by this school, and are carried out after being examined and verified by the Ministry of Education.
  11. When the grades of postgraduates or PhDs have one of the following circumstances, they are expelled:
    1. Students who are unable to complete their academic studies within the required limit.
    2. Students whose grades are below the standard, does not conform to the test re-take regulations or students who conform to test re-take regulations, but still fail after taking the test again, are thus expelled.
  12. After students deliver their test grades and test ratification letter to the Dean’s Office, they are thus considered as officially graduated. Students who are taking the education program are not included in this regulation. Graduates are required to apply for graduation procedures according to regulations. Students who did not hand in their graduation thesis according to the regulations are not allowed to receive their diploma, and they are also not allowed to use this as an excuse for postponing graduation or for evading military service.
  13. Master's/doctor's theses should be written in Chinese. The cover of master's degree thesis that is replaced by technical report should be named “Technical Report” or “Creative Report”. After students have passed their academic examinations, they are required to have a hardcover edition and electronic document in full text of the final paper delivered to the library for collection purposes. Also, one paper version of the master’s thesis and two paper versions of the doctor’s thesis should be delivered to the Dean’s Office, who then delivers them over to the collection department appointed by the Ministry of Education.
  14. If any plagiarism, cheating or violation of intellectual property rights in theses, creative writings, lectures or written reports, technical reports are detected and proven true, then his or her academic degree is cancelled and rescinded.
  15. The measures of awarding honorable doctor’s degree are set according to Degree Authorization Act and its execution bylaws by a committee recommended by this school, and are set forth in the committee organization rules.
  16. If these regulations are not clearly stated or incomplete, then they handled according to related enactments.
  17. These regulations are set by the Dean’s Office of this school, ratified by the school principal, and implemented after being examined and verified by the Ministry of Education; the same for amendment.
